Uncharted Heritage

So it seems, sometimes, the world around you keeps on going – moving, living, unaffected – yet your world feels as though it stops all together; I don’t know how else to describe it. In November we found out that we were expecting again, only to have a miscarriage last month.  Quite honestly, I haven't felt much like talking - let alone blogging, and yes, it has felt almost as if our lives have paused while we see the rest of the world carrying on. So, once again we are slowly trying to pick up the pieces and trying to move on. We are thankful for a new year. It helps to feel like we have a fresh start, and a ‘new beginning.’

The cold weather arrived quickly this year.  Rather, it snuck up on us!  And really it feels almost as if we are skipping directly from summer, right on into winter.  

Where did autumn go?  

As we were playing in the yard today, we noticed how quickly the trees are becoming bare again.  Almost all of the leaves were missing from the persimmon tree, now with what is left of the fruit clearly visible.  

Got us thinking about the legend of the persimmon seed. 

Thought we would take a look again this year...

Looks like we have another spoon this year.

Every year, since the birth of our daughter in 2011, a ‘little birdie couple’ has built a nest above the screen door on our front porch. This year was no exception. And in the midst of all that is hectic, these birds are a nice distraction, a reminder to slow down and enjoy life in the moment. I do so enjoy watching the Mama and Daddy Birds as they build the nest and subsequently feed and care for their little ones. They work so hard all day long, rain or shine, selflessly caring for their little babies. And all too soon the little baby birds will leave their comfortable nest and make their appearance.

The sun is shining again with its warmth, and the days are getting a little longer. The trees are budding, and, if you take the time to look around, you may just spot a blooming flower. 

Spring isn’t here yet, but you can feel it near, with its new hopes. We are moving forward, we are making plans.

From one season, to the next. It seems like just yesterday we were entering the fall season, and now, already, winter is only weeks away. The time has gone by so fast. And in such a blur.

Since the seasons have changed [in our personal lives] we have seen the persimmons ripen and the leaves fall from the tree. We anticipated the ripening and harvest of our pecans and walnuts, but unfortunately with everything that happened we missed the gathering. We ‘forgot’ about our small garden and in our absence it seemed to flourish on its own with some beautiful greens. Since the loss of John’s Dad we have had to re-organize the family business and we have been busy taking care of some land that his Dad had in Tellico. We have celebrated Thanksgiving with family, and now preparing our hearts for the upcoming Christmas. We have many blogging plans that we hope to bring to you in the coming weeks and months. Thank you for sticking with us and for your patience. Sorry it has been a bit crazy around here.
