Smoke in the House! Fire!?!

January 07, 2018 0 Comments

Blurry early this morning my husband woke me up saying, "There is smoke in the house! There is fire somewhere!"

I quickly followed his instructions to turn off fans, turn off the heating unit, grab the fire extinguisher. He took off to a smokey attic, where he found burning/melting around the AC/Heating Unit. Thank God that the house itself was not on fire!!!

Children are safe and warm, spending the day now with their Maw. The house is getting colder.

...and colder...

...and colder.

Apparently the motor burned up on the HVAC unit, and a couple of other things need to be replaced. Today is Sunday, so repairs won't be happening today.

We have one smallish radiator heater, and one very small space heater that we usually use in one of the bathrooms. The plan was to purchase one more radiator-type heater. Plans don't always work out though. After checking with two local Walmarts, Home Depot and Lowe's - all were COMPLETELY sold out of heaters!!! Thankfully my parents had a spare one that they are letting us borrow.

Two heaters placed strategically in the master bedroom and bathroom. Door closed to the bedroom to trap the heat inside. Bedroom is now nice and cozy. The rest of the house is FREEZING.

Time to get back to work! And time for changes!

January 06, 2018 0 Comments
Sometimes you just have to START AGAIN. It is time to pick up where I left off.

We have been through quite a season since I last posted. We have lost loved ones, and our family has also grown. It is now time to begin a new season. Our goals may have changed a little, but we still have the same dreams. We still want to become more self-sufficient. We still want to learn more about who we are, where we came from and who we are called to be.

But, as I just mentioned...we are in a new season of life. Things have changed, and will continue to change. Updates are due, and are coming. And things look a little different around here. WELCOME BACK!

Endings and Beginnings

So it seems, sometimes, the world around you keeps on going – moving, living, unaffected – yet your world feels as though it stops all together; I don’t know how else to describe it. In November we found out that we were expecting again, only to have a miscarriage last month.  Quite honestly, I haven't felt much like talking - let alone blogging, and yes, it has felt almost as if our lives have paused while we see the rest of the world carrying on. So, once again we are slowly trying to pick up the pieces and trying to move on. We are thankful for a new year. It helps to feel like we have a fresh start, and a ‘new beginning.’

Thanks for the prayers.

How do you prepare for illness?

October 26, 2013 0 Comments
It has been a rough week. Just when we thought that we were getting back on track with things our daughter came down with the flu. Poor little thing! As any parent knows, it is so hard to see your child sick. But thankfully she is now feeling much better! And so hopefully we all will be sleeping better again.

From a “prepper” standpoint though, any suggestions on how to be better prepared for the sudden appearance of illnesses?

Seasons

From one season, to the next. It seems like just yesterday we were entering the fall season, and now, already, winter is only weeks away. The time has gone by so fast. And in such a blur.

Since the seasons have changed [in our personal lives] we have seen the persimmons ripen and the leaves fall from the tree. We anticipated the ripening and harvest of our pecans and walnuts, but unfortunately with everything that happened we missed the gathering. We ‘forgot’ about our small garden and in our absence it seemed to flourish on its own with some beautiful greens. Since the loss of John’s Dad we have had to re-organize the family business and we have been busy taking care of some land that his Dad had in Tellico. We have celebrated Thanksgiving with family, and now preparing our hearts for the upcoming Christmas. We have many blogging plans that we hope to bring to you in the coming weeks and months. Thank you for sticking with us and for your patience. Sorry it has been a bit crazy around here.

Eccles. 3:1-11 (KJV)
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: [2] A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; [3] A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; [4] A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; [5] A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; [6] A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; [7] A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; [8] A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. [9] What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? [10] I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it. [11] He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
