First Snow of the Year!

January 17, 2018 0 Comments

The sleet and snow mix started yesterday afternoon, and continued until a little after midnight.

There isn't a ton of snow covering the grass, but the driveway, sidewalks and roads are very slick and mostly ice. The weather forecast says that we will not get above freezing until at least tomorrow afternoon.

John unfortunately had to make a trek out onto the roads at a very early 3:00 a.m. because of inventory at his job. Thankfully he made it safely to work, though he said if he had been able to have turned around on our road and came back home he would have. Secondary roads are pretty bad. Once he made it to the main road, things were better.

P.S. I am so thankful our heat is fixed!

Snow Day

January 28, 2014 0 Comments
This is our daughter's first snow. {We don't get much snow in this part of Tennessee.} She was so excited, and of course we were excited for her. Memories being made. Lots of playing! We also made a treat for the birds, using pine cones, peanut butter and popcorn. And we got a treat too...snow cream. Yummy! Nice to have an opportunity to slow down and just enjoy being together. A fun day for us all!

...the time of the singing of birds is come…

May 04, 2013 0 Comments
Every year, since the birth of our daughter in 2011, a ‘little birdie couple’ has built a nest above the screen door on our front porch. This year was no exception. And in the midst of all that is hectic, these birds are a nice distraction, a reminder to slow down and enjoy life in the moment. I do so enjoy watching the Mama and Daddy Birds as they build the nest and subsequently feed and care for their little ones. They work so hard all day long, rain or shine, selflessly caring for their little babies. And all too soon the little baby birds will leave their comfortable nest and make their appearance.

Mama's Little Helper

December 16, 2012 3 Comments
Our baby girl is quite the ‘little helper.’ She is so eager, insistent really, to be involved and to learn. And I want to take the time to make the learning fun for her, to cause her to want to continue to be involved and helpful. And while I am taking the time to teach her, I also want to take the time for myself, to enjoy these moments that will become cherished memories in my own mind. It too often is these simple moments of chores or other usual daily activities that we tend to just take for granted. I don’t want to take these moments for granted - the time is going by too fast, and my baby girl is growing up!
